Wondering where to shop in Singapore? The island is home to many unique districts that offer premier shopping experiences—amidst cultural landmarks, lively street activities and dazzling architectural landscapes.

Stroll down Orchard Road, lauded as one of the best places to shop in Singapore. Spanning almost 2.2km, this bustling belt is home to a delectable range of retail, dining and entertainment choices.

Whether you are looking for international luxury brands, stylish homegrown labels or trendy high-street fashion collections, this vibrant belt is a must-visit.

Of particular note are two multi-label heritage department stores, Robinsons and TANGS, which are stalwarts of Singapore’s shopping scene, and have remained at the cutting edge of fashion and impeccable service.

Originally known as Spicer and Robinson, Robinsons started as a family warehouse at Commercial Square (now known as Raffles Place). With several outlets island-wide, it is well-regarded in Singapore, thanks to its 150-year heritage as a local retail powerhouse.

TANGS, set up in 1958 by local businessman C.K. Tang, is Orchard Road’s first department store. It moved to its current building at the junction of Orchard and Scotts roads in 1982, and boasts a vast apparel, electronics and household selection.

Both stores stock a variety of local designer gems such as Aijek (effortless pieces made of natural fibres), In Good Company (contemporary and casually chic apparel) and Atelier Fang (for their handcrafted limited edition shoes).

One space along Orchard Road that has assembled a number of Singaporean design labels is KEEPERS. Check out brands like Gnome & Bow (known for quirky details on bags, briefcases and wallets for men), and Whole9Yards (for its minimalist vintage selection).

Witness the shopping belt come to life on the first Saturday of every month from July to December 2015. The 500m stretch from ION Orchard to Ngee Ann City will be closed to traffic from 6pm to 11pm1for Pedestrian Night, where visitors can participate in street-level, entertainment-themed activities and specially curated in-mall, in-store events.

For an experience that combines luxury retail with stunning views, visit the iconic Marina Bay Sands integrated resort.

Since opening in 2010, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands has amassed the largest collection of luxury labels under one roof in the region, with more than 170 luxury and premium brands in the form of flagship stores as well as duplexes and triplexes. Brands such as Bottega Veneta, Chaumet, Parmigiani and Roger Dubuis have also created limited edition items that are exclusively sold here.

The Shoppes has recently expanded the luxury childrenswear line-up, anchored by the first and only baby Dior in Southeast Asia, as well as Fendi Kids, Ralph Lauren Children and Dolce & Gabbana Junior.

In addition to international labels (don’t miss a visit to the iconic Louis Vuitton Island Maison store), acclaimed local designs can also be found here, such as Ong Shunmugam and Ashley Isham – whose creations have adorned the likes of Angelina Jolie. Do also check out Raoul and its smart tailored pieces for both men and women. Today, this local brand counts celebrities like Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence among its growing list of fans.

Catch your breath—and continue your retail frenzy at other shopping malls just a short walk away in the Marina Bay precinct, such as Marina SquareMillenia WalkRaffles City Shopping Centre and Suntec City.

Or, make your way to Sentosa HarbourFront on the southern coast, a destination that has something in store for everyone.

Sentosa HarbourFront has always been associated with the pursuit of pleasure with its exciting attractions, stylish bars and restaurants, lovely beaches, some of the biggest malls and luxe designer boutiques.

Take an afternoon off to explore VivoCity, the largest mall in Singapore. The mall features a plethora of shopping options that are suitable for the whole family, as well as stores unique to VivoCity including SuperDry, American Eagle Outfitters and Weekends. Expect vast, open-air spaces for waterfront strolls, and find an array of amenities that are kid-friendly.

Alternatively, head over to HarbourFront Centre, a vibrant 3-storey retail destination that offers an array of retail options including the flagship store of Mothercare, electronic goods and sporting equipment.

When you’ve shopped and are ready to drop, hop on the monorail or take a cable car to Sentosa, Singapore’s ultimate fun-in-the-sun playground.

A couple of tips for visitors to Singapore: Many malls in the Orchard Road and Marina Bay areas, as well as VivoCity, offer tourist privileges so do take advantage of them. Stylish homegrown brands that are popular internationally like Charles & Keith – which offers a wider range of shoes and bags here than at its outlets worldwide – and TWG Tea have many outets island-wide, so drop by to pick up something special for yourself or for your family and friends.

With a variety of retail and dining deals to celebrate Singapore’s 50th birthday, there’s no better time to visit and join in the festivities.
