Kelantan sultan grants clemency to seven prisoners
KOTA BAHARU: The Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V has granted clemency on seven prisoners, including two Thai nationals, by reducing their sentences in conjunction with his 46th birthday celebration tomorrow.
Kelantan State Secretary Mohd Faudzi Che Mamat said one of the prisoners was given an early release, while four others, who had been sentenced to death, were given life imprisonment.
The sentence on two other prisoners, also on death sentence, was reduced to natural life sentence, he told a media conference at Istana Balai Besar here today.
He said all the prisoners were drug-related convicts.
Mohd Faudzi said the Kelantan’s Pardon Board studied 37 cases that were referred to it and considered all aspects, including offence, time that had been served and the rehabilitation which they prisoners had undergone.
