Syed: Fight against those who gamble with nation not over

KUALA LUMPUR: The fight against the country’s leaders who have gambled with the nation’s future to serve their own political interests is far from over, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has said.
In a poem entitled ‘Malaysia tak akan lupa’ (Malaysia will not forget), Asia’s top debater listed a string of alleged wrongdoings committed by the country’s top leaders that included the clampdown on dissenters; the disbandment of the original Public Accounts Committee that was investigating 1Malaysia Development Berhad; and the alleged interference in the investigations into the RM2.6 billion donation Prime Minister Najib Razak personally received in 2013.
“Malaysia will not forget, when the Rakyat’s intellect is belittled, when money politics are prioritised, the Rakyat set aside.
“Malaysia will not forget, when the Rakyat is oppressed, understated, muted, mouth locked, hands cuffed.
“Malaysia will not forget, when the words of the Bank Negara Governor are ignored, when the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) recommendations [are also] ignored,” Syed said in his poem, that was written in Bahasa Malaysia and posted on his Facebook page today.
Saying the chapter on oppression had yet to be concluded, he questioned just how much more the people had to suffer as they remained victimised by the powers that be.
Syed ended the six-verse poem with a passionate call to all Malaysians to prove to the leaders that they were not soulless puppets.
“Fight! Let success be the closure of this history, as our fight is not over.”
