You’d be hard-pressed to find a better, more laidback location for a food centre than East Coast Lagoon

Opened in 1978, East Coast Hawker Centre is the only beachside food centre in Singapore. Given a $4.5 million dollar facelift in 2003, the new architecture gave it more of a beachside ambiance: lush landscaping, natural timber tops, romantically lit pavilions and open cabanas for a resort-like feel. A smaller renovation a decade later added refurbished toilets, more seating capacity and a fresh coat of paint.
Unlike most food centres which operate mainly during the day time, East Coast Hawker Centre is quiet during the day but comes alive at night with a multitude of food stalls which open until the early hours of the morning. Come here between 5pm and 8pm as this is when most of its best hawker stalls are open.
